Character Education

The life skill lessons taught in Guidance classes empower students to take responsibility for their spoken words, behavior, and choices within their control. This encompasses learning self-regulation skills such as anger management and impulse control, among others. Students learn to improve their communication, time-management and decision-making skills. Techniques for maintaining healthy friendships, engaging in non-violent conflict resolution, and learning how to recognize, prevent and combat bullying behaviors are taught. When students practice assertiveness, they develop trust and respect, guiding them toward integrity and their authentic selves. Creating a culture of kindness allows learning to flourish in an emotionally safe environment; generating coping skills challenges students to deal with stress in healthy, productive ways; learning how to manage their emotional selves allows each child to achieve their individual academic potential and so become a fulfilled and productive member of society.
