Saint Dominic School is Making Global Connections (pdf)
The wealth of available technology resources at Saint Dominic School enables the students to explore the world without ever leaving the classroom. As many of us know from our own lives, technology connects all of us and makes the world seem smaller. At Saint Dominic’s, global collaboration is seen as an important part of the learning experience and a critical skill that the students will need to be successful in the 21st Century. All classes from preschool to eighth grade have had experience connecting with the world beyond the classroom walls.

Students Attend Junior National Young Leaders Conference
Sixth grade students, Christian B., Annie Rose D., and Mark D., and seventh grade student, Erin D. were selected to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference held in Washington, D.C. They joined over 250 outstanding middle school students from across the U.S. to take part in a leadership conference which introduced young people to the rich tradition of leadership throughout American history, while helping them to develop their own leadership skills.

During the six-day program, Christian, Annie Rose, Mark, and Erin took part in educational activities and presentations and explored relevant sites, such as Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.’s museums and memorials. In addition to examining notable U.S. leaders and historic figures, they studied the impact of leadership throughout critical periods of American history including the Civil War and Reconstruction, World War II, the Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement. Upon completion of JrNYLC, these students gained a greater sense of the role of individuals in American democracy, as well as the responsibilities of being a leader.

Mrs. Bathmann Appointed to NJAET Board
Mrs. Bathmann was recently asked to join the board of The New Jersey Association for Educational Technology (NJAET). She is the first Catholic school administrator to serve on the board! This is a great opportunity for Mrs. Bathmann to spread the good news of technology initiatives that are taking place within our Catholic schools and help advance 21st Century skills throughout New Jersey.

NJAET serves educators, technology coordinators, administrators, consultants, computer companies, and software vendors. The association holds various tech events and an annual technology conference where participants engage in hands-on workshops, attend lectures, and learn about the newest technology trends and tools in education. St. Dominic School teachers and Technology Director, Mr. Zolkiewicz, have attended many of these events and conferences. NJAET also offers a variety of publications and provides grant opportunities for teachers that create innovative, educational technology projects. Fifth grade teacher, Miss Susan Briant was the winner of one of these grants last school year and received five iPads for her classroom!
